It’s a “natural” method of facial rejuvenation! You’ve already heard all the buzz about microneedling – it is one of the most popular, and one of the most effective facial rejuvenation procedures available in your plastic surgeon’s office today. But did you know that it is a completely non-destructive, almost naturopathic-like treatment that works by essentially tricking the skin into rejuvenating itself? The microscopic needle treatment – almost like high-tech acupuncture for the face – stimulates the skin to ramp up its collagen production, improve its elastic tone and smooth its surface feel. No harsh chemicals to strip away the skin, no laser “burning” away the skin, no incisions and no cuts. There is nothing to “heal”, but the changes are “real”!

It’s very reasonable! Microneedling is one of the most economical facial rejuvenation procedures available; certainly for what it can achieve when compared to similar options. A series of 6 treatments for a full facial rejuvenation program would commonly be in the $200 -$300 range per session. Compare this to a single session of full facial laser resurfacing – often a $2,000.00 – $3,000.00 expense. Comparable results, significantly less risk, much easier to undergo, a dramatically shorter recovery and much less costly than the laser – sounds like we have a winner in this match-up!

It works fast… but it also works long! Although visible improvements are often recognized within one – two weeks of one’s very first microneedling session, results and improvements will continue to gain momentum for many weeks afterwards. In fact, after a series (six seems to be the magic ideal effective number for most people), rejuvenating/remodeling positive changes will continue for some 6 – 12 months!

It’s safe for all ethnicities! Microneedling has a high degree of safety for people of color – untoward pigmentation changes following treatment are unheard of. This makes microneedling an ideal choice compared to chemical peels or lasers, both of which have known risks for leaving either noticeably lighter or darker irregular, patchy areas after the skin recovers! This color changing risk becomes even more of a concern when lasers are used in only one region (e.g. for lines around the lips/mouth) because just a slight color change could stand out against untreated areas. Regional microneedling treatments are very popular as they carry virtually zero risk for this terrible complication.

You need a Pro! All microneedling is not equal! You wouldn’t think of going to a non-board certified plastic surgeon for your facelift would you? Professional microneedling is most capably and safely performed by a certified aesthetician working alongside a physician as a team member of an aesthetic medical practice. It is in this type of environment that you can best have the confidence you need with the level of quality of the equipment used, sterility issues, experience, expertise and aftercare. And what about that personal evaluation/consultation beforehand? Although microneedling is great, it is not a cure-all; some goals might require a different option as a better choice. Your certified aesthetician and plastic surgeon are the ones most properly qualified to help you navigate that decision process.
